Treating HIV Is Not Just Physical

When someone contracts HIV, it’s not just their body that suffers. The whole person suffers.

There’s a psychological and emotional side to life with HIV that many people overlook…but not UNM Truman Health Services. We offer comprehensive care for people living with HIV.

Caring for Your Physical Health

UNM Truman Health Services’ comprehensive HIV care does include physical health services. In addition to testing and treatment, we also provide:

  • Primary medical care
  • Dental services
  • Hepatitis C co-infection care
  • Medical care coordination/case management

Our clinic also has a pharmacy, so nearly everything you need to tend to your physical well-being is under the same roof.

Caring for Your Psychological and Emotional Health

Although there are indications that society is changing, HIV is still stigmatized as a disease contracted by those with wanton lifestyles. As a result, many people living with HIV also live with shame and guilt and the consequences of those emotions:

  • Isolation
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Substance abuse

UNM Truman Health Services offers services to address these psychological and emotional health issues, too. Our Behavioral Health Services include:

  • Psychiatric consultations and care
  • Counseling/psychotherapy
  • Neuropsychological assessments
  • Medication management
  • Substance abuse counseling and treatment

We also have groups to provide social and emotional support from people who really understand what you’re going through.

There’s no need to suffer. Get all the care you need for mind, body and heart at UNM Truman Health Services. Contact us to find out more.
