There is no cure for HIV/Stage 3 (AIDS). But, UNM Truman can help you protect yourself with prevention strategies and services. Our prevention counselors can help you make healthy choices to minimize your exposure to HIV/Stage 3 (AIDS).
The U.S. Preventive Service Task Force (USPSTF) recommends HIV screening for ages 15-65 years old, in addition to all pregnant women. The CDC recommends annual testing, but individuals with increased risk factors should get tested more frequently, including adolescent and adult men who have sex with other men, people who inject drugs, sex workers, anyone who has recently or presently has an STI, and anyone who has had unprotected sex.
In addition to preventive testing, we offer free condoms at UNM Truman Health Services.
