June is the official LGBT Pride Month, and there’s events celebrating the occasion all over New Mexico. If you’re looking for a Pride festival or activity to enjoy, you don’t have to venture out of Albuquerque – here’s everything you have to look forward to here in the city!
The hub of Albuquerque’s Pride scene is at http://abqpride.com/pride2016/, where you can visit to buy tickets, learn about upcoming events, see what sponsors will be there, and more. Check the site often for updates and to see the calendar of upcoming events.
A few notable festivities for this year’s Pride Fest:
- The 10th Annual Candlelight Vigil, honoring the people who began the Pride movement here in Albuquerque and worldwide. The event is free and begins at 7:30 PM in Morningside Park. Last year’s event drew a crowd of nearly 300!
- The Albuquerque Pride Parade kicks off on June 11, starting at 10am on East Central Ave at Girard Blvd and ending at Expo NM Gate 3. This is the largest pride parade in New Mexico, usually drawing crowds of 40,000 or more spectators.
- PrideFest itself is held all weekend, June 11th and 12th, at Expo New Mexico. This is a huge event drawing multiple vendors for food, fun, and live entertainment – including the Bear Beer Den, Water and Play Park, Out Spoken Poetry Slam & Open Mic – and of course Pride Village!
